Final Paper CHN 305 Fall 2018
Requirements:
1)
You need to have a thesis statement that articulates an argument. For details, refer to the thesis statement assignment sheet, as well as the comments that we gave on your draft thesis statement.
2)
Use proper citations and quotations. There should be at least ONE citation of a text and ONE quotation. Refer to the citation and quotation assignment sheet if you have questions.
3)
Your argument should be rooted in evidence from your chosen texts. Do NOT rely on outside sources or information external to the text. Close readings and careful discussion of the concepts in the text (e.g. what we practiced in the writing assignments) should be at the center of your analysis.
Tips for your paper:
1)
Language and mechanics matters, and will comprise part of your grade (as they did in the writing exercises). Spell check software is readily available, even on a Google doc.
2)
Counterexamples always help strengthen your main argument. If something does not quite “fit” with what you have stated in your thesis statement, you do not have to ignore it. Rather, mention it, and explain that even though the example does not necessarily correspond with what you have said in the thesis statement, you still think your argument is valid because of x, y, and z (e.g. the example is an outlier, there are several ways of interpreting the example, and so on).
3)
You only have three pages. Don’t shoot for the moon. If you write a solid thesis statement that articulates a clear argument, base that argument in evidence from your chosen text(s), and write in a clear and relatively error-free manner…you will do well.
