Future Space Mission to Visit An Exoplanet to Detect Life
Write a 750 word essay describing a hypothetical future space mission to visit a distant exoplanet to detect life! Imagine what kind of new things we could do and learn some day! Be creative! Invent your own mission! We give you a few hints below what you could describe but we would much prefer you coming up with your own story. Your essay needs a title, introduction, main part, and conclusions. Some topics you could cover: Where will you go? Please select your destination among the discovered exoplanets or from the list of exoplanet candidates identified by the Kepler mission. Give an estimate of the travel time, assuming your travel as fast as the Cassini mission, which took seven years to reach Saturn. Please show your calculation. What do we already know about your exoplanet? What properties will you study when you space craft arrives? Will you collect information about your planet’s interior? What atmospheres or climates does it have? What instruments will be on board the spacecraft? What will they measure? What do you hope to discover? How will you detect a signature of extraterrestrial life? Will you be able to defend your findings before your critical colleagues? What life forms would you be able to identify? If you do not find any signature of life what other valuable information will your mission provide? How do plan to publish your findings? Will your mission have an impact on society?
