Obesity policy In the UK
Description
To trace the UK government position toward obesity. What is the change? When did it happen? Why? who are the actors? To discover the details the chapter is going to apply Multiple Streams Approach which is called Kingdon agenda-setting theory as one of the effective tools in analysing the public policy by utilising this theory that analyse three main areas: Problem stream, policy stream, and politics stream. The resources of each stream should be diverse. Government doc such as Foresight report 2007 obesity choices which highlight that obesity is not a personal responsibility! the key documents that have led to official change. decision-makers new views…etc the argument needs to be structured around a key change, from obesity as a matter of individual choice/responsibility and obesity as a matter of government responsibility. – it needs to clear what period we are talking about. if the key change has happened in 2007. In this case, the argument needs to focus first and foremost on the period before and immediately after. This needs to be firmly established. The chapter needs to expand the sources beyond the published media, and establish a clear set of criteria for source selection. The analysis of the problem stream should include a consideration of other actors – namely governmental, political parties, industry, civil society and consumer groups, scientific evidence, physicians and nutritionists, etc. This also needs to be circumscribed, first and foremost, to the UK context and in the run-up to the key period/even being scrutinized (the policy change which year).
